On my “About Lucy” page I explain that going to the Sewing Expo in Puyallup, Washington* has been a dream of mine for a long time.  I want to go for a multitude of reasons, but here are the top ones:

  • Most every sewing expert/”celebrity” is there
  • The number of classes is outstanding for sewing and quilting
  • Just about every vendor who travels to sewing shows, hits this one big-time
  • They give out fabulous prizes
  • Even their “break” shows at mid-day, which are free, are terrific.

How do I know all this?  I sign up for the circulars every year, read the articles about the show in the sewing magazines and blogs and I get the catalog of classes and guest speakers.  As you can tell, going to this is something I really want to do.

But, and it’s a Biggy, I live on the East Coast and just the airfare (~$1,2000),  hotel (~$725) and meals (~$250) for the few days is out of my league.  I can’t take it as a business deduction on my taxes because I have no taxable business income.  It was even too expensive when I was working full time.  Oh Waa, Waa, Waa as my daughter would say.

This year is different, though.  The Expo is coming to us!  Because of Coveid-19, sewing shows are reaching out to their followers with ZOOM and Puyallup is no exception!  Now for no air fare, no hotel and no meal expenses, I can go to the best sewing show in the country.  This of course does not include the cost of the classes I want to take or the admission price, or the yards of fabric and handful of notions I may buy from the vendors who are included in this virtual show.

Aren’t you excited? For sewers like me who don’t want to spend $2,000+, this is a godsend.  We can finally go to the Puyallup Sewing Expo.  Yippee!
